Discover Alaior
Alaior is often described as the cultural and industrial heart of Menorca, located right in the center of the island. It is a traditional town with a rich history that dates back to the fourteenth century, and you can see this in its narrow winding streets and beautiful whitewashed houses. The town is famous for its production of artisan cheese, which you can find all over the island, and it also has a long tradition of making high quality shoes and jewelry. It is a wonderful place to experience the authentic side of Menorca, where the local community and traditional industries are still very much alive today.
The town is also a fantastic spot for anyone who loves art and history. You can visit the impressive contemporary art center known as LOAC to see world class works or explore the beautiful historic center with its old churches and cloisters. Every Thursday morning there is a lively local market, and during the summer evenings the streets fill with people for the popular artisanal night market. Even though Alaior is an inland town, it is only a short drive away from the beautiful southern coast and the long sandy beach of Son Bou. It is a perfect base for discovering the local culture and seeing the traditions that make Menorca so special.
