Discover Es Mercadal

A beautiful and authentic town situated in the geographic heart of Menorca, right at the foot of Monte Toro. Its name means the marketplace, a title it has held since the fourteenth century when it was granted the privilege of hosting a weekly market. The town is famous for its traditional whitewashed houses and narrow winding streets that reflect the classic character of the island. It serves as the gateway to the highest point on Menorca, where you can visit the seventeenth century sanctuary and enjoy spectacular views that stretch across the entire island and even as far as Mallorca on a clear day.

The town is also recognized as one of the culinary capitals of Menorca, particularly famous for its traditional bakeries and sweet almond biscuits like amargos and carquinyols. Every July the community holds the vibrant festival of Sant Marti, where purebred Menorcan horses dance through the streets in the traditional jaleo. While it remains a working town throughout the year, its central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the rugged northern coastline and beautiful secluded beaches such as Cala Pregonda. With its mixture of historic heritage, world class gastronomy, and natural beauty, Es Mercadal offers a genuine and welcoming taste of island life.
